The Old Man and The Hammer

A factory machine breaks down. The company is losing thousands every hour.
They called in an old engineer. He takes out a small hammer, taps the machine once -
and it roars back to life. 

Invoice: $100,000
"$2 for tapping. $99,998 for knowing where to tap."

That's expertise.

And here the formula for being paid:

  1. The impact of the job you do.
  2. How cheaply you can be replaced.


AI is rewriting the rules of both.
It can do the facts, the frameworks, the processes - faster and cheaper than you ever could.

But here's what it can't do:

And to communicate it, through speaking, branding, and positioning, so you become the obvious choice. 

Because if you don't?
AI doesn't need to beat you. You'll have already replaced yourself.

 

The AI Tsunami

The AI tsuname isn't coming.
It's already here.
And it's rewriting the rules of work faster than any generation has ever seen.

  • Machines can already mimic most of what you learned in school.
  • Robots are replacing physical tasks.
  • Algorithms are taking over decision-making.


The old promise is broken: study hard, graduate, get a job, stay secure.
That system doesn't exist anymore.

Here's the reality:

  • Ageism is real. Experience is cut for cheaper, younger talent.
  • Skills expire. Yesterday's degree is today's download.
  • Networking shrank. If you don't connect digitally, you risk visibility.
  • Work culture shifted. Remote work and side hustles redefine what a "job" even is.
  • Job search skills are outdated. New grads face a future where AI is the recruiter, the screener, and often the first boss.
  • Branding is misunderstood. Without a personal brand, you're invisible in the crowd.


The ripple effects? Debt. Underemployment. Burnout. Enture communities under stress.

So how do you survive the storm?

By proving your worth in ways AI can't touch.
By showing up with trust, authority and credibility - the three currencies that never lose value.

Because AI can copy your skills.
But it can't copy your story - that's your credibility.

Most people chase jobs.
Thought leaders build ecosystems.

Employees ask: "Who will hire me?" (which company)
Thought Leaders and Icons ask: "Who do I want to serve - and how can I serve them so well they'll never leave?" (who is my target audience)

That's the only game that matters.

So, which one are you? 

  • Are you still asking, "Who will hire me?" 
  • Or are you asking, "Who do I want to serve?"


Because the question you ask determines the game you're playing.

It's not about chasing deadlines some else controls.
It's about creating systems that attract the right people, keep them engaged, and make your expertise the obvious solution thaty want to invest in. 

When your audience feels understood better than anyone else understands them...
when you can show you know exactly where they're stuck...
when you describe their pain points so clearly they think, "That's me" - that's when belief and trust begin.

And once they act on that belief and see results, that's when loyalty follows. 


๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Employees depend on being chosen.
Thought Leaders build ecosystems.
Icons build them so strong people choose them, again and again. 

As I wrote in the Thought Leader's Playbook, Chapter 19:

That's the shift.

When you're stuck in employee-mode, you're always waiting for someone else to decide your worth.
But when you think like a Thought Leader, you shop chasing. You start designing.
